As the time of our shoot approached, I truly didn't know what to expect other than that I was shooting photos of a family of three with a young baby girl who'd never been photographed before besides the daily mobile phone photos that adoring parents take of their children.
I was very early because we were shooting at the Buckhead Duck Pond and parking is tricky there and I wanted to be able to walk them through the best place to park. Having never met them before, this would be tricky. But, once I got the call from them, I stood in the very private street that lines the west border of the park and waved them down.
The Duck Pond was very busy that day, and after a few minutes, the Thompsons walked up to me and introduced themselves. I was instantly taken by their beautiful daughter and started taking photos of her immediately. As Thompsons adjusted their daughter's dress and hair, I started taking candids because it was so beautiful to watch and also because they'll never get this time back when she is so small and totally reliant on them.
We had a wonderful session and I shot some beautiful photos but most importantly, we connected and I captured the love the three of them have for each other. The Thompsons were so very relaxed and accommodating of my creative ideas about what we should do, that it made the shoot go as smoothly as possible. And at about the 29 minute mark, baby girl was done...which was about right. Children that young have a window, and once you've walked through that window it's time to shut it down.
We got some beautiful pictures and I used a preset to accent the beauty of the family as well as the setting. And we're shooting 1 year pics soon!
